Patrick Boamah urges support and European exposure for Benjamin Asare ahead of 2026 World Cup

Okaikwei Central Member of Parliament Patrick Yaw Boamah has urged stakeholders to invest in Ghana’s number one goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, as the Black Stars prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Asare, who plays for Hearts of Oak, has featured prominently in Ghana’s recent qualifiers, helping the team secure a place at next year’s tournament. However, his readiness for the global stage has come under scrutiny from sections of the public.

Speaking on Sporty FM, Boamah stressed the need to build Asare’s confidence and prepare him for the intensity of the World Cup.

“We need to build our goalkeeping area well because we’re going to play in the World Cup. Benjamin Asare is good, but we must help him build his confidence. The World Cup is a different kettle of fish; there will be 70,000 or 80,000 people in the stands, and stage fright can be very worrying,” he said.

The MP further recommended that Asare be given the chance to train abroad during the domestic off-season to enhance his experience and exposure.

“This is the time to send him on attachments to clubs in Europe when Hearts of Oak is not in session, to train with some of the best goalkeepers and coaches around the world. It will help him realise that whatever they are doing, he can also do even better. Ati-Zigi and others are already in Europe, and Asare must be given that capacity-building opportunity to develop a bigger picture ahead of 2026,” Boamah added.

Ghana has booked a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and will discover their group-stage opponents in December’s official draw.
