Ghana’s Black Queens have qualified for the third round of the 2024 Paris Olympics after securing a 2-0 win against Benin in the second leg at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday.
Having secured a 3-0 victory in Cotonou, the game was expected to be a walk in the park for the Queens but Benin gave the Ghanaians a run for their money.
Queens goalkeeper, Cynthia Konlan had to produce a good stop to keep the scoreline level in the 15th minute, two mins after Benin hit the woodwork in search of an early goal to stage a possible comeback.
But forward Evelyn Badu dashed their hopes with a fine finish to put the Queens ahead in the 65th minute.
10 minutes later, Badu mounted pressure on the defence to force an own goal and put Ghana in the driving seat.
It is now nine consecutive wins for the Black Queens under head coach Nora Hauptle.
Ghana will face Zambia in the third round qualifier of the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
