The Black Stars rallied from two goals down before managing to hold Zimbabwe to a 2-2 Group B on Monday in Bouake.
Coach Milovan Rajevac complained bitterly about players not playing to instructions, and Owusu-Ansah agrees.
“We did not listen to the strict instructions and strategy the coach rehearsed with us before the start of the competition,” Owusu-Ansah told Kickoffghana.com.
“That’s why some players had difficulty in containing the Zimbabweans, especially in the first half.
“When we played according to instructions, the Zimbabweans started to feel the pain.”
Ghana will play Libyan in their second Group B game on Thursday.
