Our top target is not to win the Ghana Premier League – Samartex head coach Nurudeen Amadu

FC Samartex head coach, Nurudeen Amadu has revealed that their top priority is not to win the ongoing 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season but to improve their performance and finish in the top four.

His comment comes following their big win against Aduana Stars at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park on Monday in Dormaa.

The win leave Samartex at the top of the league log with 35 points after 18 games played.

Speaking after the game, Adamu said it is too early for him to discuss their chances of winning the Premier League title.

According to him, their priority is to improve their performance and finish in the top four.

“It’s too early, and we’re taking it match by match. There are a lot of matches to play, and as a young club, we’ve had about 3 to 4 players injured at the start of the second round, making it difficult to predict,” he told Kumasi-based Akoma FM.

“We want to improve our performance, so winning the league isn’t our top priority, but rather finishing in the top four. It will not be easy, but we are there to compete with them, so we will do our best and see where we get.

“I can’t promise the fans that we will win the league, but as I previously stated, I am only doing my job. The fans may have high expectations, but even though we are ambitious, I cannot guarantee them the league title,” he added.

Baba Hamadu Musa and Emmanuel Keyekeh scored the goals for FC Samrtex.

FC Samartex will host Nations FC in the Matchday 19 games at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex on Sunday, March 3.
