Newcastle vs Everton
Premier League
St James Park, Newcastle, Tuesday, 7:30pm
TNT Sports 2
On Tuesday we start our midweek slate of games with a clash between two teams who are in crisis. Newcastle may be eighth in the Premier League but with Jamaal Lascelles now ruled out due to an ACL injury they’re without yet another player, throwing them into an injury crisis. On the flip side of that, Everton have lost three on the bounce and are just three points from the drop, they need to start picking up points very soon.

Draw
Newcastle may have won two of their past three but they are now missing 11 first-team players through either injury or suspension, including their first-choice goalkeeper and an entire backline. They’ve done brilliantly to continue picking up points through this crisis, but with Jamaal Lascelles the latest to be ruled out, it’s only going to get harder.
Everton haven’t won a Premier League game in 2024, scoring just 30 times in 29 games this season. However, they are generally good defensively, and Sean Dyche will come to St James Park looking to keep the team tight and compact and steal three points if they can. The reality is that they’re toothless up front but their defence gives them a great chance for this game finishing a draw.
Joe Willock to commit 1 or more fouls
The Newcastle midfielder made only his fourth start of the season on Saturday, giving him a total of seven Premier League appearances this campaign. As good as he is, he’s a bit-part player for Newcastle and this unfamiliarity with his teammates, including a brand new back-four, will make things harder for him.
Add to that, an Everton team who are scrapping for every point they can get right now, and it’s hard to see Joe Willock playing 90 minutes in central midfield and not giving up a single foul.
Abdoulaye Doucoure to commit 2 or more fouls
We’re also taking Abdoulaye Doucoure to commit at least two fouls on Tuesday. He’s averaged 1.9 fouls per game in the Premier League season, leading his team in average fouls per match.
With this game being a key fixture thanks to Newcastle’s injuries and a game in which they’ll be hopefully of taking something from, we should see a close encounter, something that would only increase the chances of midfield players such as Doucoure picking up fouls. So he’s likely to go marginally over his season average of 1.9.
Under 2.5 goals
If you look at Newcastle’s form you can see that they’ve had Over 2.5 goals in each of their past 11 Premier League games. Normally that’s a reason to follow the trend but given the depth of their injury crisis, one that’s worsened with every game, it needs to be discounted.
Far more applicable is that there have been Over 2.5 goals in just 46.7% of Everton’s games on the road this year. With most of Everton’s away games being Unders, and Newcastle riddled with injuries, that’s the way to bet on Tuesday.
Harvey Barnes to have 2 or more shots
Another of Newcastle’s key losses on Tuesday is Anthony Gordon, which means we’re likely to see Harvey Barnes moved into the former Everton man’s position on the left side of the attack.
Barnes has only started three of his 12 Premier League games for the club but has already racked up four goals and averaged 1.3 shots per game. With his starting this match, it’s fair to assume he manages to take two or more shots at goal.
Draw
