Liverpool v Sheffield United
Premier League match at Anfield, Liverpool
TV: TNT Sports, Thursday, 7:30pm
Over 3.5 Cards
When the odds are so lopsided in favour of one side you tend to have to go deep into the stats for value but fear not, there’s still plenty to be found. Our first port of call is the cards markets. On an initial look, you’d have to expect Sheffield United to pick up the majority of cards here. The Blades have picked up 88 bookings this season in the Premier League, while Liverpool have chalked up 59.
However, with the end in sights, Liverpool have been letting their discipline slip at home, picking up 12 cards over their last five home Premier League clashes. Chris Wilder’s side have collected 13 over their last five on their league excursions so we should quite easily see four cards being brandished at Anfield on Thursday night.
Alexis MacAllister to have 1 or more Shots on Target
The Blades aren’t getting much luck of late, they’ve thrown away leads in both of their most recent league games, going from 0-2 up away to Bournemouth to drawing 2-2 and being 3-1 up to Fulham with four minutes to go and, again, seeing it ending all square. They will aim to frustrate Liverpool, they don’t really have another way of playing and, as such, we’re likely to see Liverpool taking potshots from distance, and with their World Cup-winning midfielder, Alexis MacAllister scoring in three of his last five for the Reds, we’re expecting him to land at least one shot on target.
Don’t forget about our new Super Sub offer where if you back a player in certain markets, if they’re substituted their picks transfer over to who they’ve been replaced by. Read more about Paddy Power’s Super Sub offer here.
Mohamed Salah to Score
Mo Salah has faced Sheffield United five times over his career so far, being on the winning side in all but only scoring in one of them. He had 12 shots against Brighton on Easter Sunday and has scored in all three of his starts since returning from injury. The title is within their reach now and Liverpool’s Egyptian King thrives in high-pressure games. He’s going to be shooting on sight here and against a side who have conceded 17 over their last five in the league, Salah should be adding to his league tally here.
Luis Diaz to Score
Luis Diaz has seven Premier League goals this season, as well as three assists. He’s also scored two in the domestic cup competitions and three in Europe too. He’s exactly the type of tricky forward that Sheffield United’s defence just cannot seem to cope with and he’s likely to get a fair bit of joy on the left side of attack. With Dominik Szoboszlai and Endo providing balls from behind and Darwin Nunez and Salah to square it to in the middle, Diaz should be getting into goal-scoring territory here. His pace and eye for goal means there’s a good chance of him getting on the scoresheet.
Liverpool -2 (alt handicap 2)
If Liverpool get an early goal here, they could really run away with it, as we’ve seen Arsenal (twice), Brighton (twice), Aston Villa and Newcastle do this season against the Blades. We must say though that Liverpool rarely keep a clean sheet at home and we’re all familiar with that stat of how many points they’ve won from losing positions. So, if they should go 0-1 down early, there’s very little chance of them actually losing.
Should they go 0-1 down, they have plenty of potential goalscorers in good form to still come back against this Sheffield United side and win by more than three goals.
