Ouattara hails Hearts of Oak’s progress, says team deserved more

Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara believes his side were among the standout performers of the just-ended Ghana Premier League season, despite narrowly missing out on a top-four finish.

The Phobians ended their campaign on a high, defeating champions Samartex 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium to record their fourth straight win.

The result saw them finish level on 58 points with arch-rivals Asante Kotoko, though they placed lower due to head-to-head disadvantage.

Reflecting on the season, Ouattara praised the team’s growth and spirit, especially given their rough start.

“We didn’t begin the season well, and most of our players weren’t even known,” he said. “But we turned things around. These boys are now stars, and we showed character till the very end.”

With Hearts showing clear signs of progress, speculation around Ouattara’s future continues, as reports suggest former Kotoko boss Maxwell Konadu could be lined up for the job.

Nonetheless, Ouattara insists the team has laid a strong foundation and is ready to build on it—whether or not he remains at the helm.

“The team has grown, and the results speak for themselves. Whoever takes over, the future looks promising for Hearts of Oak.”
