Otumfuo Osei Tutu II: Asante Kotoko remove image of owner from new kits –

Asante Kotoko have announced changes to their 2022/23 kits, including the removal of the image of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The Porcupine Warriors honoured their king by emblazoning his image on their uniforms, but this decision drew criticism.

They were forced to remove the image from the kits they will be wearing next season.

“We have amended our 2022/23 Kits after further considerations in collaboration with Errea,” Kotoko announced on Twitter on Thursday.

The new kits don’t have Otumfuo’s image.

The controversial Alhaji Grusah, who owns King Faisal, a club also based in the Asantehene’s kingdom, slammed Kotoko for using Otumfuo’s image on their kits.

“It’s uncivilized to have put ‘Otumfuo’ on the Kotoko jersey,” he told Kumasi-based Kessben FM. “In fact, it’s a village thing. Otumfour is more than that, he does not go to war and lose.

“Maybe these Asantes don’t know how Otumfuo is valued. Who doesn’t know he is the owner of the club? Which team does that in the world?

“We put sponsors on jerseys. This is not maturity, they already done it but they can still go back and change it,” he added.

Kotoko are set to head to Turkey for pre-season. The new season will commence on the second weekend of September.
