Former Asante Kotoko chairman Herbert Mensah believes it’s not the responsibility of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the club’s life patron, to invest in the team.
Mensah made this comment after Kotoko visited the Manhyia Palace to present the FA Cup trophy to Otumfuo.
According to Mensah, “Everywhere you go there is a greatness in Kotoko because of Otumfuo. Too many people have forgotten they think you are playing football but it more than football. You represent the spirit of Asanteman.”
He emphasized that the team’s leadership should invest in the club, not Otumfuo.”You must back up, be at the World Club championship and bring the glory back.
Otumfuo has dreams bigger than you can imagine,” Mensah said. “When I travel the world, everybody talks about Asante Kotoko and at the same time, they talk about Otumfuo.”Mensah added, “Otumfuo has invested, but it is not Otumfuo’s job to invest in Kotoko rather it is what Kotoko achieve and those who hold it must invest.
It is an honour, privilege to hold Kotoko.” With their FA Cup win, Asante Kotoko will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
