Otto Addo has started his reign as Ghana head coach on a losing note after suffering a narrow loss to arch-rivals Nigeria in an international friendly match on Friday evening.

The former Dortmund talent coach was handed the job on a three year extendable contract following the sacking of Chris Hughton.

There were relatively so many new players in both teams, with Forson Amankwah making his debut as a starter.

The game was contested in a typical derby manner with a lot of aggressive play coming from both teams.

Nigeria were awarded a contentious penalty with seven minutes to the end of the first half which was converted by Cyriel Dessers.

The Black Stars went into recess down by goal at the Stade Marrakech in Morocco.

Jerome Opoku was sent off 11 minutes after the break, with Ghana finishing the game with a man down.

Ademola Lookman scored in the 83rd minute after the ball was put on the plate for him to convert following a counter attacking situation, making it 2-0 for Nigeria.

Jordan Ayew pulled one back for Ghana in stoppage time from the penalty spot after Antoine Semenyo was brought down to end the game 2-1 for Nigeria.
