Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has dismissed talk of revenge ahead of Ghana’s final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 12.
The highly anticipated clash comes nearly a year after Comoros stunned Ghana in Moroni — a defeat that still lingers in the minds of fans. But Addo insists his players are focused on qualification, not payback.
“I don’t think previous results will affect us too much. We can’t win every game. We know how strong they are,” Addo said at the pre-match press conference.
“The first match I wasn’t there, so maybe we underrated them a bit. I hope we can beat them with a big scoreline, but it will be difficult.”
The Black Stars head into Sunday’s fixture brimming with confidence after a resounding 5–0 victory over the Central African Republic in Meknes, Morocco. Goals from Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Kudus, and others lifted Ghana to the top of Group I with 22 points, three ahead of second-placed Madagascar.
That win has not only boosted morale but also put Ghana firmly in control of their qualification destiny. A win against Comoros in Accra would seal their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be staged across the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Addo remains grounded despite the growing excitement among Ghanaians.
“I know people want us to win every game, and I understand that. But sometimes it’s about how strong the opponent is and how we approach the game in the first few minutes,” he added.
The coach emphasized tactical discipline and mental composure as key to breaking down Comoros, who remain one of Africa’s rising football nations after their strong performances in recent qualifiers.
