Otto Addo insists Black Stars striker Jordan Ayew’s goal drought isn’t an issue –

Ghana coach Otto Addo has defended forward Jordan Ayew after questions were raised about his Black Stars goal scoring record.

Crystal Palace is not having a good run, with no goals in his last 15 games for the Black Stars. He last scored in March 2021, on a penalty against Sao Tome and Principe.

However, Otto Addo insists that it is not an issue because the striker performs as expected.

Addo was speaking after Ghana defeated Madagascar 3-0 to kick off their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign on Wednesday.

“The players who started [against Madagascar] deserved to do so, including Jordan [Ayew]. Jordan had good training sessions and he created some chances [during the game]. He himself had some chances; the [Madagascar] goalkeeper had an excellent day,” Addo said.

“If you watch the Premier League, sometimes you can see Jordan score; his last goal was maybe three weeks ago. It’s not a big problem if somebody doesn’t score. For me, it’s about creating chances and doing well and that’s what he did today so I’m satisfied.”

Black Stars will travel to Angola to play the Central African Republic in their second game of the qualifiers on Sunday.
