Former National Sports Authority (NSA) Board Chairman Kwadwo Baah Agyemang has praised Ghana’s strong World Cup qualifying campaign but questioned head coach Otto Addo’s ability to guide the Black Stars on the global stage.
Agyemang shared his views after Ghana’s emphatic 5–0 win over the Central African Republic, which left the team needing just a point from their final qualifier to book a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Otto Addo has shamed me. He has changed a lot since the Mali game,” Agyemang admitted, acknowledging the coach’s progress.
“We will surely be at the World Cup, but Otto Addo can’t lead us to face teams like Spain, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, and Argentina.”
The former NSA boss described Addo as a “qualification expert,” crediting him for steering Ghana to the brink of a second consecutive World Cup, but argued that the coach lacks the composure and tactical sharpness required at the tournament itself.
According to Agyemang, Addo’s touchline behavior and strategic decisions against stronger opponents raise concerns about his readiness for football’s biggest stage.
Despite remaining unbeaten with six wins from seven qualifiers, Addo continues to face criticism from some quarters ; including Sports Minister Kofi Adams, who recently described the coach as “lucky” despite Ghana’s impressive form.
The Black Stars will wrap up their qualifying campaign against Comoros on October 12 at the Accra Sports Stadium, seeking to seal another World Cup ticket under Addo’s leadership.
