Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer, president of Tema Youth FC, has called out the Ghana Football Association (GFA), blaming its leadership style for the Black Stars’ ongoing struggles. He insists that without unity within the football fraternity, Ghana’s senior national team will continue to falter.
The Black Stars’ woes have been glaring, with the team crashing out of the group stage in three consecutive major tournaments. Their decline hit a historic low when they failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 20 years. Despite their rich history as four-time AFCON champions, Ghana managed just three points from six qualifiers, recording three losses and three draws to finish bottom of Group F.
In a candid interview with Asempa FM, Palmer didn’t mince words, holding the GFA accountable for the national team’s poor form. He accused the current administration of creating division and failing to bring the football community together.
“People keep asking why the Black Stars are underperforming, but the answer is simple—you can’t treat people unfairly and expect success,” Palmer said. “The team lacks blessings. I have dedicated myself to serving this national team, yet this is how I’ve been treated? It’s painful, and I’m truly hurt.”
Despite his disappointment, Palmer expressed hope for a turnaround but stressed the need for a change in leadership style.
The Black Stars will have a chance to redeem themselves in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with crucial fixtures against Chad and Madagascar coming up in March.
