Ghanaian forward Prince Osei-Owusu scored his first goal of the 2026 MLS season, converting an 8th-minute penalty to lead CF Montreal to a 3-0 victory over New York Red Bulls.

Owusu’s goal marked his first of the campaign after three appearances, and he played a crucial role in Montreal’s attack before being substituted in the 61st minute for Mexican forward Daniel Rios.

The win is a confidence boost for Owusu, who recently joined the Black Stars and made his debut in November 2025 during the Kirin Cup.

He’s eager to secure a spot in Ghana’s 2026 World Cup squad and believes consistent performances at club level will help him achieve this goal. “I will keep performing well, help CF Montreal, and hopefully earn the honour of a call-up,” he said in an interview.

Owusu’s impressive form has caught the attention of Ghana’s technical team, and he’s expected to feature in upcoming friendlies against Germany and Austria later this month.

These matches will give head coach Otto Addo an opportunity to evaluate players ahead of the World Cup squad selection.

CF Montreal’s victory was sealed with two goals from Venezuelan midfielder Wikelman Carmona, who scored in the 44th minute and completed his brace in the 68th minute.

Montreal dominated the game, and Owusu’s goal sparked a commanding display from the Canadian side.

Owusu, 29, joined CF Montreal in January 2025 on a two-year contract with an option for 2027.

He’s a product of the VfB Stuttgart academy and has played for several German clubs, including TSV 1860 Munich and SSV Jahn Regensburg.

Before committing to Ghana, Owusu represented Germany at youth level, but he chose to represent his parents’ country, saying, “It was a longer thought for me, but representing my roots was clear.”

Owusu’s decision to represent Ghana has been welcomed by the country’s football fans, who are eager to see him don the Black Stars jersey.

His experience playing in the German leagues and the MLS will undoubtedly be beneficial to the national team, and he’s looking forward to learning from his new teammates.

CF Montreal’s next match is against Inter Miami, and Owusu will be looking to continue his impressive form.

The team is currently in good spirits, and the win over New York Red Bulls has given them a confidence boost heading into the upcoming games.
