Fourth Meets This as Lens and Marseille Likely to Draw

Marseille and Lens will clash in Ligue this weekend in what is one of the biggest fixtures in the league season so far.

Both teams are looking to establish themselves as contenders alongside Paris Saint-Germain for the title as home side head into this one off the back of taking a huge hit in their race for the title.

Heading into the match, Marseille are sitting fourth and will welcome the third-placed Lens to their own backyard and it will no doubt be the biggest test of the season for Lens.

This meeting does, however, come just a week on from Marseille losing to the league leaders and champions PSG by a slim 1-0 margin.

On the other hand, the title chase from Marseille was still quite unlikely unless it defeated the Paris side, as they simply look too powerful these days, but after now moving to six points behind against PSG so early on, Marseille are likely going to be fighting for second this season.

The likes of Dimitri Payet and Alexis Sanchez are still part of a side that boast of the second-best defensive record in the league with just eight goals let in across 11 games.

In fact, after losing only 1-0 to PSG while having 10 men on the pitch for much of the game, in some ways, they should be commended for keeping the score 1-0.

Marseille have still managed to net 20 goals of their own in Ligue 1 too, and there is still plenty to shout about for the club who finished second in the league last season.

The club are also riding high in the Champions League, after smashing Sporting Lisbon 4-1 in France before defeating the Portuguese giants 2-0 away from home.

On the other hand to this impressive form, however, they did lose to Ajaccio 2-1 in between these results in Europe over the Primeira Liga side.

As for Lens, they are in sensational form this campaign in Ligue 1 with them having registered victories over Lyon and Montpellier already in October, losing only to Lille in this time.

It keeps them third in the league with the same number of wins as Marseille, and if they are to consider themselves title challengers, the club must win here.

Forebet predicts a draw here and for the game to see under 2.5 goals.
