President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has openly criticised the standard of coaching in the country.
He made the remarks while observing the ongoing CAF License A course at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.
The GFA chief described coaching as a long-standing concern within Ghana’s football structure.
“I have never, never, never been happy with coaching, and I have not stopped talking about this,” he stated emphatically.
“When I say coaching standards in Ghana has been poor, I really mean it.”
According to him, coaching and refereeing were identified as priority areas during the Association’s 2023 Congress in Kumasi.
He believes weaknesses in modern tactics and limited access to advanced training have slowed progress.
Outdated approaches and inconsistent development pathways were also highlighted as key challenges.
The current CAF License A programme is part of efforts to upgrade technical knowledge among local coaches.
Okraku remains optimistic that sustained investment in education will strengthen Ghana’s football competitiveness in the long term.
