Oaks FC have officially secured promotion to the Women’s Premier League after a commanding 4-1 victory over Rootz Sistaz in the penultimate fixture of the GFA Regional Women’s Championship.
The female side of Hearts of Oak continued their dominant run in Group A, making it four wins from four matches and sealing their place in next season’s Women’s Premier League Southern Zone with a game to spare.
The Phobians wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Fati Ibrahim curling home a sublime free-kick in the eighth minute to open the scoring. Just nine minutes later, Victoria Yeboah doubled the lead after latching onto an Amanda Mills cross at the far post.
Mills then turned scorer before the break, capping off a first-half blitz from Oaks FC. Despite several other chances, the first half ended 3-0 in favor of the Phobians under the guidance of head coach Mercy Tagoe, former trainer of the Black Queens.
Rootz Sistaz came out with renewed energy after the interval and managed to pull one back seven minutes into the second half.
But Oaks FC responded swiftly, with Esenam Sarafina converting a penalty to restore the three-goal cushion.
Oaks FC now comfortably sit atop Group A, having already booked their ticket to the elite division of women’s football in Ghana.
Their final group match will be a mere formality, as all eyes turn to how they’ll fare among the nation’s top sides next season.
