Former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, has labelled the 2015 ruling in the Dreams FC and Tema Youth case a “bad decision” that damaged the Association’s reputation.
The case centered around Daniel Gozar, a player whose identity was altered to Cudjoe Mensah, and resulted in a ban for the player without sanctions for Dreams FC.
Nyantakyi distanced himself from the verdict, stating he had no knowledge of the case or role in the decision.
“The interesting thing is that I didn’t know anything about the [Cudjoe Mensah/Daniel Gozar] case [between Tema Youth and Dreams FC], and I had no role at all in it.
“I didn’t even understand the case, I didn’t know the facts of the case. I knew there was a case at the Disciplinary Committee and that was the extent of my knowledge.
“I have a good relationship with [Wilfred Kwaku Osei] Palmer, and I was even in the ExCo with Palmer before Kurt [Okraku] came, so if there was any help I could give, I probably could have given it to Palmer, but I didn’t give help or attempt to influence any decision at the FA in favour of anybody.
“That was a decision taken by the Disciplinary Committee headed by now General Secretary [Prosper Harrison Addo], and with the benefit of hindsight, it was a bad decision which cannot be supported any day by law, and CAS [ruling] exposed the weakness in the decision. I think that time has really vindicated that it was a bad decision,” Nyantakyi told Muftawu Nabila Abdulai in an interview.
