Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has called for improved team cohesion within the Black Stars squad, warning that disjointed preparations could derail Ghana’s hopes at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana currently tops Group I in the CAF qualifiers with 15 points, but still has four crucial matches to play to seal a spot at the tournament, which will be staged across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe emphasized the importance of discipline and team chemistry, citing recent lapses in player reporting and matchday selections as areas of concern.
“The Black Stars will need cohesion before the World Cup; otherwise, the team will struggle at the tournament should we qualify,” he said. “We’ve seen players arriving at camp late and still being allowed to start matches the next day. That’s unacceptable.”
His comments followed Senegal’s remarkable 3-1 victory over England on Tuesday at the City Ground, a performance he described as inspiring.
“I watched Senegal against England and was genuinely impressed,” he said. “They played with so much organization and intensity. I wondered; can we do the same? They used local players too. Can we follow that example?”
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe’s remarks come as the Black Stars prepare for two key World Cup qualifying fixtures in September: an away game against Chad and a home clash with Mali. Ghana will wrap up its qualifying campaign in October with ties against Comoros and the Central African Republic.
