Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has raised concerns about the dire state of sports facilities in Ghana, describing the situation as “deeply troubling.”
In an interview with Joy Sports following the submission of the NSA’s initial report to the new Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, Ankrah stressed the urgent need for collective action to address the decline.
“The condition of our sports infrastructure is far from ideal, but we are determined to tackle it,” Ankrah stated.
He highlighted potential developments, such as Honourable Bryan Acheampong’s plan to support Okwawu United by building a stadium in Nkawkaw, pending the submission of necessary documentation. “This is a promising step forward,” he noted.
Ankrah appealed to corporate entities, private individuals, and foreign investors to join forces in revitalizing sports facilities nationwide, aligning with the government’s agenda for transformation.
He urged patience from the public, acknowledging the scale of the challenge: “The deterioration we’re seeing didn’t happen overnight, and fixing it will take time.
It’s a long-term commitment.” The NSA emphasized its focus on sustainable solutions, prioritizing lasting impact over quick fixes.
