Nottingham Forest handed major boost as star set to sign a new contract

Nottingham Forest are set for a major boost ahead of their long-awaited return to the English top flight as it has emerged that Brennan Johnson is set to sign a new ‘long-term’ deal at the City Ground this summer.

21-year-old Johnson was one of the side’s shining lights as they navigated their way through a tricky Championship season last time out, with the Welshman grabbing 16 goals and a further 9 assists, appearing in every single game in the process.

There had been speculation about his future this summer, with the likes of Newcastle thought to have been sniffing around the youngster, thus news of a new deal will be welcome to the Forest faithful, and will help protect their most valuable asset.

What else is happening?

Forest have already broken their transfer record this summer to sign Union Berlin forward Taiwo Awoninyi, and do not intend to stop spending there.

Brice Samba seems set to depart, having rejected a new contract in the midlands, and Dean Henderson is on the verge of arriving on loan to replace him.

Meanwhile, talks for Moussa Niakhate are back on following a lull in proceedings, and Forest are also testing the waters over a potential deal for Neco Williams this summer to replace the outgoing Djed Spence, though Liverpool are currently holding firm on their hefty valuation of the Welshman.

This business, combined with tying down their key assets, could stand them in very good stead for next season and years to come.
