“Not in my hands” – Kamaldeen Sulemana talks Southampton future

Ghana international, Kamaldeen Sulemana has expressed uncertainty regarding his future at Southampton following their relegation from the English Premier League.

The 21-year-old winger joined Saints from French club Stade Rennais on the final day of the January transfer window for a £22milion club-record fee, scoring twice and providing one assist in 18 Premier League games.

In his first half-season, Sulemana showed glimpses of brilliance, scoring two goals against Liverpool on the final day of the 2022/23 campaign.

It is believed the top talent will attract many suitors and thus will not go down to the Championship with Southampton.

With his contract running until 2027 and his future still uncertain, Sulemana has conceded that he is prepared to put in the work needed if he remains at the club come pre-season.

He told Daily Echo: “My future is not in my hands, we don’t know what the future holds. If I am here for the pre-season I will be here and will be ready to put all the hard work needed to bring Southampton back where it belongs.”

Sulemana also revealed his January move in the face of relegation was due to search for playing time.

“I want to play every game and that is the conversation we had and one of the main reasons I tried to move from France – to get game time,” he noted.

Kamaldeen Sulemana will be joining the Ghana national team camp for the June international window where the Black Stars are scheduled to face Madagascar away in a penultimate 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) Group E qualifier on June 17.
