“No World Cup Slots Yet!” — NSA Boss Clears the Air

Director General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has moved to shut down speculation surrounding Ghana’s travel arrangements for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, revealing that the authority has not yet received any official allocation of slots for the tournament.

The clarification comes amid growing excitement as the Ghana national football team prepare for their fifth appearance at football’s biggest global event.

In recent weeks, rumours had circulated suggesting that the National Sports Authority had already secured a quota of tickets or travel slots for staff and supporters planning to accompany Ghana to the tournament.

However, Ampofo Ankrah has firmly dismissed those claims, insisting that the process has not yet reached that stage.

Speaking on the matter, the NSA boss explained that the authority will only receive its official allocation through the Ministry of Sports and Recreation once the government finalizes its arrangements.

“NSA does not have any World Cup slots as has been speculated,” Ampofo Ankrah stated.

He stressed that any quota assigned to the authority will come directly from the ministry responsible for overseeing Ghana’s sports administration.

“The authority will be given its quota by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation in due course,” he added.

The clarification is significant because the allocation of World Cup slots often determines how many officials, staff members, and supporters are able to travel as part of the country’s official contingent during the tournament.

Traditionally, various sports institutions, government agencies, and supporter groups receive designated quotas to ensure organized representation at major international competitions.

For Ghana, the upcoming World Cup carries enormous importance.

Ghana Fans

The Black Stars are eager to make a strong impact at the 2026 edition after experiencing mixed fortunes in recent tournaments.

Their last two appearances at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2022 FIFA World Cup both ended in group-stage exits, leaving supporters hoping for a more competitive showing this time around.

The draw for the 2026 tournament has placed Ghana in a challenging group alongside the Panama national football team, the England national football team, and the Croatia national football team.

It is a group that promises high drama and fierce competition from the very first match.

For Ghanaian fans, travelling to support the national team at such a tournament is more than just a football trip — it is a celebration of national pride and unity.

Over the years, Ghana supporters have built a reputation for creating vibrant atmospheres at international competitions, with colourful displays, traditional music, and passionate chanting that bring African energy to global stadiums.

The presence of travelling fans has often played a vital role in motivating the players during major tournaments.

Ampofo Ankrah acknowledged that enthusiasm among supporters is already building as the countdown to the World Cup continues.

However, he emphasized the importance of patience while official processes are completed.

“We urge the public to remain patient as the process is finalized,” he said.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup itself will be historic for several reasons.

It will be the first tournament jointly hosted by three countries — United States, Canada, and Mexico — and will also feature an expanded format with 48 participating teams.

The larger tournament structure means more matches, more host cities, and potentially greater opportunities for supporters to witness their teams in action.

Ghana Fans

For Ghana, the event represents another chance to recapture the magic of their unforgettable run at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, when the Black Stars reached the quarter-finals and came agonizingly close to becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-finals.

With a new generation of players emerging and experienced figures leading the squad, hopes are high that Ghana can deliver a memorable campaign in North America.

But before the football drama unfolds, the logistical groundwork must first be completed.

Allocating official travel slots, organizing supporter contingents, and coordinating national representation are all essential steps in ensuring Ghana’s presence at the World Cup is properly managed.

For now, Ampofo Ankrah’s message is straightforward: no quotas have been issued yet, and speculation should be treated with caution.

Once the Ministry of Sports and Recreation finalizes its decisions, the National Sports Authority will receive its official allocation — and preparations for Ghana’s World Cup journey will move into full gear.

Until then, the focus remains on patience and planning as the nation prepares to rally behind the Black Stars on football’s biggest stage. ⚽🇬🇭
