Ghana’s former Youth and Sports Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, is calling on the Black Stars to elevate their performance, despite their impressive wins in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The team secured a 5-0 victory over Chad and 3-0 win against Madagascar to bounce back strongly from uninspiring African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Black Stars failed to win a game in the qualification campaign picking just three points after playing six games.
In an interview with Citi Sports, Vanderpuye remains skeptical about the team’s overall progress.
“I think the two matches we have played so far don’t give me any indication that there has been an improvement in the team, even though we’ve won those matches by wide score lines,” Vanderpuye said.
“I want to see a Ghana national team that will strike fear or put every other team on alert that they are playing Ghana, whether you are Argentina or Brazil.”
Ghana currently at the summit of Group I with 15 points in the World Cup qualifier and will be back in September to continue with qualification campaign.
