Flying Eagles head coach Aliyu Zubair says Nigeria’s focus in the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship is not about beating Ghana but preparing for next year’s FIFA U20 World Cup.
Nigeria take on hosts Ghana in the group opener on Thursday, July 10 at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, with Benin completing Group A.
Zubair admits the tournament wasn’t originally on their schedule but sees it as timely. “This tournament has come at the right time for Nigeria. It gives us a good platform to prepare for the World Cup,” he said.
Despite the short buildup, Nigeria ; the defending WAFU champions are looking to test their squad and build cohesion as they begin their title defence in one of West Africa’s most anticipated youth clashes.
