Athletic Bilbao President John Uriarte is confident forward Nico Williams will commit to a new long-term contract before the end of the season.
The Spain international is currently on a contract which expires at the end of the 2023/24 season and there are concerns the player could leave for free.
Nico is the junior brother of Inaki Williams who also plays for Bilbao and has been at the club since being promoted to the first team in 2015.
Despite the fears around the player’s future, Uriarte believes the forward will eventually sign a new deal.
“We feel calm about that. We think he’s going to extend and stay with us, this will happen,” he said in interview.
“We want an attractive project, feeling sure that Nico Williams will be part of that for many years to come.”
Nico has played in seven league games for the club this season, starting all while averaging 70 minutes per game.
He was part of Spain team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and has since been a regular in the national team squad.
