Nicholas Opoku deserves three match ban – Amiens coach Philippe Hinschberger

Nicholas Opoku, who was expelled last week for a reckless tackle during Amiens SC’s victory over Dijon, got a three-match suspension following Ligue 2 disciplinary committee’s review of the incident.

Philippe Hinschberger feels that imposing the right punishment, has taught his defender a lesson. He also said he has spoken to Opoku about making reckless tackles and the player has apologized.

“It was predictable his suspension, even if I do not really explain his gesture. Like Manu Lomotey, his compatriot, he is able to pull off a defensive gesture for nothing at times. At the time, there are all the elements together, namely the speed, the commitment, the lack of control which can explain this sanction. There is all the less worry as he came out of three yellow cards. We were down 1-0 and we had conceded a penalty but there was no danger in the house either,”

“We talked about it together, he came to apologize. He takes three matches and he left the team in trouble against Dijon. It has already been three times that he can be taken out, since I have already saved him against Annecy and Grenoble. It’s quite strange on his part, because he doesn’t pull the pin like that in training.

“He’s even a boy who defends without making a lot of mistakes. I think maybe he was pissed off by the score, the penalty. It’s something that is not tangible and difficult to anticipate for the staff. Now, for the rest of his career, he must banish this kind of behavior and gesture. Especially since he doesn’t need it at all,”

Nicholas Opoku has played has played 10 games in Ligue 2 for Amiens this season.
