Word stemming from the media on Saturday points towards a fresh suitor as being ready to position themselves in the sweepstakes for Leicester City star Youri Tielemans.
The outfit in question? Newcastle United.
The name of Belgian international Tielemans has, of course, taken its place front and centre in the headlines across the summer to date.
This comes with the midfield all-rounder, ahead of the expiration of his Leicester contract in 12 months’ time, having been hotly tipped to take his talents to one of the heavyweights of the Premier League.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal were initially viewed as the widespread favourites to strike a deal, with it at one point having been deemed as a mere formality that Tielemans would ultimately opt to take his talents to the red half of north London.
Recent weeks, though, have seen the Gunners’ interest cool, opening the door for the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United to enter the fray.
And, as alluded to above, if the latest word stemming from the media on Saturday is anything to go by, then yet another of the English top-flight’s clubs have now too begun expressing an interest in Tielemans’ services.
As per journalist Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports, a ‘growing feeling’ is emerging that Newcastle are ready to position themselves in the race for the Belgian.
Dan Ashworth, sporting director at St. James’ Park, is even understood to have moved forward with initial enquiries regarding the situation, ahead of an opening proposal potentially being tabled over the course of the coming weeks.
There is a growing feeling Newcastle could enter the Tielemans race, too. Dan Ashworth has already made enquiries.
Challenge for #NUFC would be convincing Tielemans how he fits into a midfield with Joelinton, Bruno and Shelvey.
One to watch…
