Former Hearts of Oak Managing Director, (MD) Neil Armstrong Mortagbe, has slammed coach Chris Hughton’s decision for not including Richmond Lamptey in the Black Stars Matchday squad at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite Lamptey making the final squad, the Kotoko anchorman barely sat on the bench as a substitute in Ghana’s three group stage games.
In an interview with Graphic Sports and monitored by kickoffghana.com. Neil expressed his disappointment in Coach Chris treatment of the Asante Kotoko midfielder.
“The fact that a player plays locally does not mean he cannot play for the Black Stars.
“We have all seen what Richmond Lamptey has done for Asante Kotoko, and I struggled to understand why he was never used, even when Majeed Ashimeru was injured. There were times when Richmond Lamptey was not even on the bench,” He said.
The Black Stars exited the tournament with two points, suffering a defeat against Cape Verde and drawing with Egypt and Mozambique respectively.
