Nayef Aguerd’s Marseille future remains uncertain amid Real Sociedad interest

Marseille have not ruled out the possibility of Nayef Aguerd leaving during the summer transfer window, despite the Morocco international remaining part of manager Bruno Genesio’s plans for now.

Genesio confirmed that discussions over Aguerd’s future are continuing, with negotiations taking place over a potential move to another club. However, the Marseille head coach also made clear that he remains keen to retain the defender and believes Aguerd can still make an important contribution if he stays at the club.

Speaking about the 29-year-old, Genesio said: “Aguerd? He is still with us, but there are negotiations about his departure. You know that I rely on him, and he can offer us a lot.”

The comments were reported by Moroccan sports website Albotola and come as uncertainty continues to surround Aguerd’s position at Marseille.

Genesio was also asked about the defender’s recent absence from his plans. He explained that Aguerd has regained his fitness after recovering from an injury, but suggested that his physical condition alone did not explain why he had not featured.

“He has returned from injury, but that is not the reason for his absence,” Genesio added.

The coach’s remarks coincide with continued reports linking Aguerd with a move to Real Sociedad. Negotiations between the clubs are understood to be approaching a decisive stage, although a final agreement on the terms of the transfer has yet to be reached.

For now, Aguerd remains a Marseille player and is still considered by Genesio to be capable of helping the team. At the same time, the manager’s confirmation that talks over a departure are active means the defender’s future remains unresolved during the summer window.

Aguerd’s situation therefore depends on whether Marseille and Real Sociedad can settle the outstanding details of a possible deal. Until that happens, the Morocco international remains within Genesio’s squad while discussions over his next move continue.
