Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari has confirmed that he confronted coach Akwasi Appiah on why he was substituted in the Black Stars’ 2-0 win over Lesotho in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

The AC Milan star charged straight into the dressing room in protest of his substitution early in the second half of the game played in Maseru.

Muntari returned to sit on the bench for the remainder of the game after taking his early shower but confronted the coach after the match over why he was substituted.

The 28-year-old however adds his confrontation with coach Appiah over the subject of his substitution was cordial.

“I was not happy when I was taken off I think in the 65th minute or so,” he said on TV3’s Diva Show.

“I went to the dressing room but came back to sit on the bench, we scored, I celebrated with the team.

“After the game the coach came and was thanking me but I said I won’t accept it.

“I asked him why he changed me and he said it was for tactical reasons. And I asked what tactical reasons.

“But it was not like it was in a rude manner. We spoke and later we left with no problems.

“I love my coach but we raise issues, speak about it and that is all. It’s better than keeping it in me and later on disrespecting him.”

Muntari had come under heavy criticism from many who believe he failed to conduct himself properly after his substitution as one of the senior members of the current Black Stars crop.

He has in the past been cited for indiscipline but has managed to conduct himself well in the side in recent times.
