Member of Parliament for Lower West Akim, Frimpong Owen, has applauded the Black Queens not only for their WAFCON heroics but also for bringing unexpected joy to his constituents—through tax-free sports bet wins.
Speaking in Parliament ahead of Ghana’s semi-final against Morocco, the MP humorously noted,
“My people are so happy that last Saturday, they won bets and there was no 10% tax taken.”
His comments sparked laughter across the chamber and came during a debate on the Queens’ performance, with other MPs praising the team’s efforts and previous groundwork.
The Black Queens are chasing their first WAFCON final since 2006, having beaten Tanzania 4–1 in the group stage and edged Algeria on penalties in the quarter-finals, thanks to goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan’s two crucial saves with them facing South Africa at 7pm
