Mozambique secured their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) win, defeating Gabon 3-2 in a thrilling Group F encounter at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir.

The Mambas, led by captain Elias Pelembe, scored twice in the first half in a 3-2 win, ending a 39-year wait for a win at the continental finals.

Faisal Bangal headed home the opener in the 37th minute, and Geny Catamo converted a penalty to double Mozambique’s lead.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pulled one back for Gabon before halftime, but Diogo Calila restored the two-goal lead with a header in the 52nd minute.

Alex Moucketou-Moussounda scored Gabon’s second, but Mozambique held on for the historic win.

Witi was named Man of the Match for his influential performance.

Mozambique now has three points, joining Ivory Coast and Cameroon at the top of Group F.
