Mostafa Shobeir links up with CAA Base as Egypt World Cup goalkeeper attracts attention

Mostafa Shobeir has taken a significant step towards a possible move abroad after officially signing with the global football agency CAA Base.

The Al Ahly and Egypt goalkeeper is now represented by the agency, a development that could improve his chances of joining a European club in the coming period. His profile has risen sharply following his performances at the 2026 World Cup, where he helped Egypt reach the last 16 for the first time in the country’s history.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the change on his account on X, stating that Shobeir had joined the list of players represented by CAA Base. Romano also noted that the goalkeeper’s current contract with Al Ahly runs until June 2027.

Despite that agreement, Shobeir could leave the Egyptian club if interest from overseas develops into a formal approach. A number of clubs are understood to have taken notice of him after his displays at the World Cup, although no transfer has been confirmed.

Shobeir played an important role in Egypt’s historic campaign in 2026. The Pharaohs progressed beyond the group stage and reached the last 16 for the first time in their World Cup history, with the goalkeeper producing a series of strong performances during the tournament.

Those displays brought him attention from observers and scouts outside Egypt and increased his standing in the transfer market. His decision to work with CAA Base is therefore being viewed as an important development in his career, particularly because of the agency’s extensive connections with leading European clubs.

CAA Base is one of the biggest player-management agencies in football and represents a number of high-profile figures across the sport. Its clients include Chelsea’s England international Cole Palmer and Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo, along with Arsenal forward Eberechi Eze.

The agency also manages the careers of prominent coaches, including Italian Carlo Ancelotti and Spaniard Julen Lopetegui.

Shobeir’s move to CAA Base does not itself confirm that he will leave Al Ahly, but it signals a clear intention to explore opportunities beyond the Egyptian Premier League. His contract gives the club control of his future until June 2027, while his performances in the World Cup have strengthened his position should European interest lead to negotiations.

For now, the goalkeeper remains an Al Ahly player. However, his new representation and the attention generated by Egypt’s progress at the 2026 World Cup have created the conditions for a possible move to Europe in the next phase of his career.
