Morata’s Madrid plans point towards possible Leganes move

Alvaro Morata is expected to leave Como and join Leganes on loan, with his desire to remain in the Spanish capital understood to be central to the proposed deal.

The 33-year-old striker has been unable to establish himself in Cesc Fabregas’ Como side and appears increasingly likely to continue his career outside Serie A. His prospects of securing a regular starting place in Italy are also set to diminish further with Moise Kean’s expected arrival at the club.

Morata’s next destination has been the subject of speculation involving several teams, but a report from radio programme El Larguero on COPE says he has now made his choice. According to the report, Leganes are set to provide the former Real Madrid and Atletico de Madrid forward with an unexpected route back to Spain.

Mundo Deportivo, which reported the development, said Morata’s priority is to live in Madrid. That preference is understood to have influenced his decision to consider Leganes.

The same report says the former Spain international would move to Leganes on a temporary basis from Como. Any agreement would therefore see Morata return to the Spanish capital while remaining contracted to the Italian club.

Mundo Deportivo added that people close to the player had confirmed the deal was currently being negotiated, although an agreement had not yet been completed.

“Morata’s close associates confirmed the deal, which is currently being negotiated,” the newspaper reported. “It is not an easy operation, given that Leganes are a second-division team, but if everything goes well, Morata will be Leganes’ number nine this season. He is eager to live in Madrid.”

The proposed transfer would represent a notable change in circumstances for a player who has previously appeared for both Real Madrid and Atletico de Madrid. Rather than competing for a starting role at Como under Fabregas, Morata could become the main striker for Leganes if the negotiations are successfully concluded.

The move is not yet final, with the parties still working through the details. However, the reports indicate that Morata’s wish to settle in Madrid has given Leganes an advantage as he considers the next stage of his career.

The developments come as Como prepare for Kean’s anticipated arrival, a move that would make it even more difficult for Morata to secure a regular starting position at the Italian club.
