Mohammed Kudus: West Ham’s £85m man faces uncertain future after second-season slump

West Ham United are prepared to sell Mohammed Kudus this summer as they look to raise funds for a major squad overhaul, according to latest reports.

Despite signing the Ghanaian star for £38 million just last year, the Hammers are reportedly willing to part ways with him—though they may have to settle for far less than his release clause.

Sources indicate the club is strapped for cash, meaning key sales are necessary to finance incoming transfers.

While less high-profile players like Guido Rodríguez and Konstantinos Mavropanos are also on the market, Kudus’ higher market value puts him at the forefront of West Ham’s transfer list.

Last summer, there were fears Kudus could be poached due to his £85 million release clause for Premier League clubs (£80m for European clubs, £125m for Saudi clubs).

However, following a dip in form during the 2024/25 season, it now seems unlikely any club will activate those clauses.

After an impressive debut season in England with 14 goals and 9 assists, Kudus managed just 4 goals and 4 assists in 34 Premier League appearances this campaign—a sharp decline that has cooled some of the interest around him.

Clubs such as Arsenal are monitoring his situation, and West Ham could reportedly accept offers in the region of £60 million. Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr have also shown interest, and the Hammers will be hoping for a big-money offer, similar to the £100m bid rejected by Brighton for Kaoru Mitoma.

Former West Ham scout Mick Brown echoed this sentiment, saying:

“West Ham will listen to offers for Kudus. He hasn’t performed to expectations, and Graham Potter is open to letting him go. The release clause won’t matter if no one pays it.”

“There are clubs watching him, but doubts remain over his current value. It’s been a disappointing season, and he hasn’t proven why anyone should spend big on him.”

West Ham remain determined to back Potter this summer, and selling Kudus could be a key step in generating funds for a squad refresh.
