Mohammed Fuseini scores debut goal for Black stars in Unity cup rout

In Ghana’s emphatic 4-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in the 2025 Unity Cup third-place playoff, all eyes were on a new name; Mohammed Fuseini.

The 23-year-old forward seized his moment with a maiden goal that not only sealed Ghana’s dominance but marked the beginning of what many believe will be a bright international future.

Making his first start for the Black Stars, Fuseini who has been in fine form for Union St Gilloise in Belgium; rose to the occasion with confidence and class.

After a brief but promising cameo in the semi-final loss to Nigeria, coach Otto Addo handed him a starting role in the playoff match, a decision that paid off handsomely.

The game began with intensity, and Ghana took early control. Captain Jordan Ayew opened the scoring in the 6th minute with a brilliant top-corner finish.

Eight minutes later, Razak Simpson; seeking redemption after a difficult outing against Nigeriarose high to power in a header and make it 2-0. Ghana were in full command, and the energy inside the Gtech Community Stadium was electric.

Then came Fuseini’s moment. In the 42nd minute, Ghana produced a sweeping team move that exemplified Otto Addo’s tactical identity. Razak Simpson initiated the play from the back, combining with Caleb Yirenkyi, who fed Ayew.

The skipper, ever aware, spotted Fuseini’s run and laid off a perfect pass. With composure that belied his age, Fuseini slotted the ball past goalkeeper Jabari St Hillaire, scoring his first goal for the national team and pushing Ghana into a 3-0 lead before halftime.

This goal wasn’t just a personal milestone it ; was a signal to the coaching staff, the fans, and the continent that Mohammed Fuseini is ready.

His combination of pace, technique, and finishing instinct offers something fresh to Ghana’s attack, and his inclusion in future squads seems inevitable.
