The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has announced that the 2025 President’s Cup will mark a renewed effort to revive Ghana football.
Speaking at the official launch, Director William Katey emphasized the government’s commitment to restoring the game to its former heights.
“The honourable Minister and the government are very committed to restoring Ghanaian football to its old glory and the event [President’s Cup] is meant to kickstart this commitment,” Katey stated.The President’s Cup, scheduled for July 6, will feature a highly anticipated match between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak. Katey described the event as a pivotal moment in the government’s roadmap for football development, saying it will serve as a stepping stone in this direction. The 2025 edition honors President John Dramani Mahama and is expected to draw national interest.The launch event was attended by top football stakeholders, including GHALCA President John Ansah. The Ministry’s initiative reflects the government’s dedication to reviving Ghana football and repositioning it for national pride and international relevance. The President’s Cup promises to be an exciting encounter between two of Ghana’s biggest football rivals.
