Former Chelsea star Michael Essien has expressed no desire to take on a head coach position, citing stress and unwanted media attention.
The 41-year-old, who holds a UEFA License A coaching certificate, is content with his current role as an Individual Player Coach at Danish club Nordsjaelland, where he has been since 2020.
In an exclusive interview with Joy Sports, the Ghanaian legend explained that he prefers to stay out of the spotlight.
“For now, I am not thinking about being a head coach; it is too stressful. I like to be behind the scenes, away from these media duties and cameras in my face. But you never know; maybe at some point,” he told Joy Sports.
“I’ve been to many places, top clubs and everything, but the Nordsjaelland organisation is second to none.
“I want to help take the football of young Nordsjaelland players to a different level. They need some guidance, and seeing me around gives them something to learn.”
Essien made 59 appearances for Ghana’s Black Stars, scoring nine goals.
