Kwasi Donsu, the long-serving captain and midfield icon of Medeama SC, has officially parted ways with the club after an illustrious 10-year spell, ending a golden chapter in Tarkwa football history.
The 29-year-old’s departure was confirmed on Monday in a club statement, which noted the exit was by mutual consent, despite Donsu having one year left on his contract.
Donsu joined the Yellow and Mauves over a decade ago and has since become one of the most decorated and consistent midfielders in Ghana.
His contributions helped Medeama win two FA Cups, a historic Ghana Premier League title, and feature in the group stages of both CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
Renowned for his lethal set-piece ability, Donsu racked up over 40 goals in all competitions, with the 2015/16 season standing out as a highlight ; scoring 15 goals, including 10 from free kicks, a rare feat in domestic football.
He also had international experience, spending the 2019 season on loan at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in the USL Championship, before being part of a historic nine-player move to Malta’s Sirens FC in 2023 ; the largest single-player export from a Ghanaian club to Europe.
“Kwasi Donsu departs not just as a player, but as a symbol of Medeama’s rise and resilience,” the club said in its farewell message.
As he exits Tarkwa, Donsu leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, brilliance, and unmatched consistency, with fans and teammates alike hailing him as one of the greatest to ever wear the Medeama shirt.
