Ghanaian clubs Medeama SC and Nations FC will discover their opponents in the 2026/27 CAF inter-club competitions when the preliminary-round draws take place in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday, 6 August.

Medeama SC will represent Ghana in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League after winning the Ghana Premier League title. Nations FC, meanwhile, will enter the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup after securing a historic triumph in the MTN FA Cup.

The two clubs will learn the first steps in their respective continental campaigns as the Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) conducts the draws for both competitions.

The TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup draw will be held first, beginning at 14:00 Cairo time (11:00 GMT). The TotalEnergies CAF Champions League draw will follow at 15:00 Cairo time (12:00 GMT).

Fans in Africa and elsewhere will be able to watch both events live through CAF’s official YouTube channel, CAF TV.

The preliminary-round draw will establish the route towards the group stages of the two competitions, giving Medeama SC and Nations FC an early indication of the challenge ahead in their attempts to progress in African club football.

A total of 61 clubs have been entered for the 2026/27 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League. The TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will feature 56 clubs competing for continental success.

For Medeama SC, participation in the Champions League follows their success in Ghana’s top-flight competition and provides the club with the opportunity to test themselves against clubs from across the continent. Nations FC will begin their own continental journey in the Confederation Cup after their landmark MTN FA Cup victory.

Both Ghanaian sides will be hoping the draw produces favourable opponents as they seek to make a strong impression beyond the domestic game. Their progress will also be closely followed in Ghana, where the clubs will aim to strengthen the country’s standing in CAF’s inter-club competitions.

Thursday’s ceremony therefore marks the formal start of the 2026/27 continental campaigns for both clubs. Medeama SC will learn the opening assignment in their bid to advance in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, while Nations FC will discover the first obstacle in their pursuit of progress in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

The draws in Cairo will set the initial structure for the new season, with the preliminary-round outcomes determining the route each team must negotiate before reaching the group stages.
