Medeama dominate Black Stars provisional AFCON squad: five players earn coveted call-up

Medeama Sporting Club stand tall as the biggest provider of talent to the Black Stars’ provisional squad for the upcoming AFCON, with a staggering five players representing the Tarkwa-based club. This impressive haul surpasses all other Ghana Premier League teams, showcasing the depth and strength of Medeama’s squad.

Leading the charge is Jonathan Sowah, whose prolific goalscoring exploits at Medeama have earned him a well-deserved call-up. Joining him is the acrobatic goalkeeper Felix Kyei, whose reflexes and agility have been a crucial asset to the Mauve and Yellow outfit. Derrick Fordjour, Abdulai Nurudeen, and Hamidu Fataw Nurudeen complete the quintet, adding their versatility and skill to the mix.

While Medeama shines brightest, other stars from the domestic league also find their place in Hughton’s preliminary squad. Asante Kotoko’s Richmond Lamptey brings his pace and trickery, while Dreams FC contribute John Antwi’s experience and Godfred Atuahene’s defensive grit. Great Olympics duo Emmanuel Antwi and Benjamin Asare add further depth and attacking options to the mix.

However, this is just the first step. Coach Hughton has until January 3rd to refine his selection and unveil the final 27-man squad that will battle for continental glory in Ivory Coast. With the tournament kicking off on January 13th, anticipation is already skyrocketing.

Whether Medeama’s five warriors ultimately make the cut remains to be seen, but their inclusion in the provisional squad is a testament to the club’s exceptional talent development and a thrilling reminder of the depth and quality within the Ghana Premier League. As the final selection approaches, all eyes will be on Hughton’s decision, eager to see how he shapes the Black Stars into a force to be reckoned with at the AFCON.
