Matt Target set for permanent Newcastle United switch

Newcastle United are on the verge of signing defender Matt Targett on a permanent deal from Aston Villa.

The wingback joined the Magpies in January on a loan deal and impressed under Eddie Howe with the club coming out of relegation to finish in the top ten.

According to Daily Mail, Howe wants to keep the player and has alerted the club bosses to turn the deal into a permanent one with Villa set to ask for £12million for the player with talks between the clubs currently ongoing.

The reports state that an agreement between both clubs is ‘close’ to completion as Howe wants to get the deal over the line as quickly as he can as the player is attracting interest from Premier League newbies Fulham FC.

The 26-year-old made 35 appearances across all competitions for Newcastle and registered one goal and one assist in the process.
