Match ratings: Five star display leaves Ghana on the brink of 2026 World Cup

The Black Stars took a step closer to securing qualification for the 2026 World Cup with a 5-0 trouncing of Central Africa Republic in a dominant team performance.

Here’s how each player fared

Benjamin Asare – 7

Had little to do throughout the game, bar gathering and making routine saves. Asare made Ghanaians run around with excitement when he controlled the ball with his feet and showed quick feet to get himself out of a tight situation. Asare has now kept 4 cleansheets in 6 national outings.

Mohammed Salisu – 8

Solid display from the Monaco man who found his 4th Black Stars goal with a towering header.

Alexander Djiku – 8

Does Djiku put a foot wrong for Ghana? An assured defensive display was rewarded with a looping header.

Gideon Mensah – 7

The Auxerre fullback didn’t have much to do but kept it simple and tidy when he was called into action.

Caleb Yirenkyi – 7

An all-round player, Caleb Yirenkyi put in a good shift in defense, often providing the attacking width for Kudus and Issahaku down the right.

Thomas Partey – 8

Partey makes everyone else around him tick. The Villarreal man scored Ghana’s second goal after a lung-bursting run from midfield but was crucial in progressing the ball up filed.

Kwasi Sibo – 7

Sibo put in a display which suggests he should be on Otto Addo’s mind to start against Comoros. He won the ball back effectively, made crunch tackles , made key interceptions, and showed the aggression, which has long been lacking.

Semenyo – 7

Semenyo got himself into good areas and positions, but just as his Black Stars career until this point has been, the final product was missing.

Mohammed Kudus – 8

Starboy extraordinare! Took the conrer that set up Salisu to get the Black Stars on their way to a thumping win. Kudus was well in the mix, creating chances and making himself a nuisance for C.A.R

Fatawu Issahaku – 7

Always great to see Issahaku back. Not as blistering for Leicester in recent weeks, but Issahaku stuck to his task, offering width for the Black Stars, cutting inside from the wing and unleashing ferocious strikes.

Jordan Ayew – 9

The star of the show. To be in the same bracket as Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland just about summaries the type of qualification Ayew is having. The skipper is now well clear of Messi and Haaland for the most goal involvements across the different parts of the continent after scoring one and setting up two to help Ghana win comfortably. By far, the best player on the pitch.

Joseph Paintsil – 7

Did what he had to do when the moment came for him to square the ball to Kamaldeen at the back post for a simple tap in.

Kamaldeen Sulemana – 8

“It took five years, but I’ve finally scored.” In his own words, Sulemana has longed for this goal, and it arrived in perfect fashion to cap off a fine team display.

Elisha Owusu – 7

In flashes, Owusu turned away from danger relatively easy and got Ghana high up the pitch and in good attacking positions.

Prince Owusu – 7

The birthday boy from Medeama is one for the future with enormous brilliance and intelligence.

Jerome Opoku – 7

The lanky center back helped Ghana to keep back to back cleansheets for the first time since March.
