Former Ghana international Masahudu Alhassan has taken a major step into coaching after being named head coach of Italian Serie D side Anzio Calcio 1924.
The 33-year-old will combine coaching duties with playing responsibilities, assuming a dual player-coach role following his move from Atletico Pontinia.
Anzio confirmed the appointment in an official statement, bringing clarity to the club’s technical direction after weeks of uncertainty.
“Alhassan Masahudu is the new head coach of Anzio. The uncertainty surrounding the team’s technical leadership has now been resolved, with Masahudu set to guide the squad through to the end of the season,” the club announced.
Explaining the decision, the club said it opted for continuity and internal promotion, citing Alhassan’s experience and qualifications.
“The club has opted for an internal solution, placing its trust in the former Udinese player of Ghanaian nationality. Already part of the Anzio squad as a quality addition, Masahudu also holds a UEFA coaching licence and will now put his experience at the service of the club in this new role.”
Alhassan brings extensive knowledge of Italian football, having enjoyed a long playing career across Serie A and the lower divisions with clubs including Genoa, Udinese, Perugia, Latina and Novara.
This season, he has made six appearances for Anzio, who currently sit 14th in Serie D Group G with 23 points as they battle to secure their league status.
On the international stage, Alhassan earned eight caps for the Black Stars between 2011 and 2012, having previously represented Ghana at youth level with the Black Satellites at the 2011 Africa Youth Championship. He was also part of Ghana’s squad for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations co-hosted by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
The appointment marks a new chapter in Alhassan’s football journey as he begins his transition from player to coach in a familiar Italian setting.
