Head coach of Ghana’s U-20 women’s national team, Charles Sampson, has expressed satisfaction with the Black Princesses’ preparations as they gear up for a crucial FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying tie against South Africa.
The Princesses are targeting an eighth consecutive appearance at the global showpiece and have made a strong start to their qualification journey so far.
Speaking on the team’s progress in camp, Sampson revealed that preparations are on course, with emphasis currently placed on physical conditioning and tactical organisation.
“They’re going on well. We’re focusing right now on conditioning and also on our structure of play. Many players are not in camp yet, so we are expecting some players to drop in during the week, and then we can start shaping up the way we want to shape,” Sampson said.
The team opened camp in Accra in the first week of January following a commanding 4-0 aggregate victory over Tunisia in the second round of the qualifiers.
As more players report to camp in the coming days, the technical team is expected to fine-tune tactics and build team cohesion ahead of the two-legged encounter.
Ghana will host South Africa in the first leg of the qualifier between February 6 and 8, 2026, before travelling away for the return fixture scheduled for February 12 to 14.
With a blend of experienced players and emerging talents, the Black Princesses are confident of maintaining their strong qualifying record and securing another place at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
