Manchester United confirm second free agent to leave following Pogba departure

Manchester United confirm second free agent to leave following Pogba departure

Manchester United have confirmed their second departure of the day, with Jesse Lingard the latest to say his goodbyes to Old Trafford.

The midfielder was overlooked for large parts of the season under first Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and then Ralf Rangnick, even denied a final home appearance during his side’s 3-0 win over Brentford at Old Trafford.

Lingard has made 232 appearances for Manchester United, scoring 35 goals and providing 21 assists in the process across an 8 year career in the north west, in addition to loan spells with Brighton, Wigan Athletic and, most successfully, West Ham.

In a statement, the club said:

‘Manchester United can confirm that Jesse Lingard will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.

An Academy graduate and dyed-in-the-wool Red, Jesse has been with United for over 20 years, having originally joined our Under-9s team in 2001.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Jesse for all of the memories he’s helped create during his two decades here and wish him the best of luck in his future career.’

It remains unclear where 29-year-old Lingard’s next destination will be, with links both in the Premier League and across Europe.

Pogba also confirms departure

Meanwhile, Paul Pogba has also called time on his six-year return to Manchester, and will leave on a free transfer this summer.

The Frenchman won the Europa League, League Cup, FA Cup and Community Shield in his second spell with the club.

Although, on a personal note, United will be pretty underwhelmed by his performances having paid a then-world record back in 2016.

He is expected to join one of Juventus and Paris Saint Germain in the coming weeks.
