Manchester City react to Benjamin Mendy trial verdict

In the sights of English justice for several months, Benjamin Mendy (28) is accused by six young women of seven rapes, an attempted rape and a sexual assault. After deliberations, jurors at Chester Crown Court delivered their verdict by majority, not unanimous, on Friday. And they ruled he was not guilty on seven of the nine counts on which he stood trial. They did not return a verdict on two other counts. Manchester City, club where Mendy played before his troubles with the law, reacted on his account Twitter.

“Manchester City FC take note of today’s verdict at Chester Crown Court in which a jury found Benjamin Mendy not guilty on seven counts. The jury is pending on two counts and the trial is now over. As there are open questions related to this matter, the Club is unable to comment further at this time.” The Skyblues therefore remain cautious, especially since the prosecutors have requested a new trial for Benjamin Mendy and Louis Saha Matturie since the jury has not decided on certain counts. The 2018 world champion will be judged on June 26.
