Ghanaian striker Majeed Waris has labelled the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as a “shame” to the nation.
The team ended their campaign without a win in six matches, finishing last in Group F with only three points.
Angola and Sudan claimed the top two positions in the group, securing their places at next year’s tournament in Morocco.
Waris, who played for the Black Stars between 2012 and 2019, expressed his disappointment over the team’s poor performance.
“I think it is a shame to all of us and I feel like something needs to be done,” he told JoySports.
“Everyone is hurt and we are not going to feel it that much now but when it’s time for the tournament, when you see the countries arriving for the tournament and then the joy, happiness that it brings into the country, that’s when the country [Ghana] will feel it more.
“It is something that we are all not happy about.”
Up next for Ghana is the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar in March 2025.
